Andrew McGettrick

Andrew is a European Patent Attorney and a Chartered Patent Attorney, working across a wide range of technologies including electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, medical devices and computer software.  He has acted for a wide range of clients, from start-ups and university spin-out companies to universities and larger corporations.

Andrew is highly experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent applications at the UK Intellectual Property Office, the European Patent Office and abroad, in particular in the US, China, Japan and Korea.  Andrew’s work also includes oppositions and appeals before the European Patent Office, performing due diligence on patent portfolios for investors, performing IP audits, filing and prosecuting registered design applications and providing advice on other IP matters (e.g. patent filing strategies, patentability opinions, freedom to operate analysis, opinions on infringement and validity and advice relating to contentious matters).

Andrew has an MEng (with distinction) and a PhD degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, his PhD focussing on tuneable diode laser spectroscopy for solid oxide fuel cell diagnostics.  He started working in the patent profession for a large firm in the south of England in 2007 and joined Alistair Hindle Associates in 2012, becoming a Director in 2015.
